What We Do

The Missouri Women’s Business Center is dedicated to providing small business development assistance to aspiring women, with a focus on minority and low-to-moderate income-based entrepreneurs throughout Mid-Missouri. We do this through relevant programming and guided support to help them start their own business. From initial concepts to building a steady stream of economic resources, our mission is to break down the barriers that women in our community face when owning and operating a business.

Our History

The Missouri Women’s Business Center is part of a large, nationwide network of women’s business centers. Locally, we are a program of Central Missouri Community Action. All of the women’s business centers are funded in part by the federal Small Business Administration.

In 2015, CMCA executive director Darin Preis knew that the opportunity to create self-sustained financial stability was a critical part of the fight against poverty and looked for a way to add an economic development program to the many programs offered at CMCA. At that time, the federal SBA released a grant opportunity to open a women’s business center in Mid-Missouri. Darin applied for the grant, and with the help of former WBC Director, Jaime Freidrichs, the center was born in June 2016.

We have only just begun our work in central Missouri and invite you to influence the programs and services we offer by filling out this survey.
